... Third time's the charm!

Wednesday night Collin and I finally succeeded in having our romantic dinner out at Le Petit Cafe. It's this little French restaurant right next to our neighborhood Bloomingfoods. I worked at Bloomingfoods for two years, and we've lived in the neighborhood for another year, but we were saving a visit to Le Petit for a special occasion. Finally, we decided that our two year anniversary was special enough. With Auntie Kristen again graciously offering to babysit for Annie, Collin and I skipped down the sidewalk to Le Petit.

Le Petit is a really neat, unconventional sort of place. It is in an old taxi garage, and is a little vintage-feeling inside. The owners/chefs/servers are a husband and wife who live upstairs above the restaurant. They don't have any set menu, but each night offer four entrées. When we were there, they offered a steak, a chicken, a veal, and a tuna entrée, and asked for vegetarians to identify themselves so a special meal could be put together. We opted for the veal in peach sauce and chicken in honey mustard cream. And the cheese pastries. Mmmm.

The food was most excellent! The sauce on my chicken was especially delicious, and the side dishes (roasted vegetables and a deliciously soft zucchini quiche) were superb. The restaurant is run by a French couple who came to IU in the '70s and stayed to open Le Petit. You can see the husband, Patrick, in the picture just over my shoulder. He was enjoyably effusive, while his wife, Marina, was quiet and delightful. When Patrick was picking up our bill he declared, "Thank you, Thank you..." (glances at Collin's credit card) "Forrest!" Then he took several steps away, turned around again and said, "For a moment there I thought this said your name was Forrest Woods, but that would be too much! I am glad it is not so."

Anyway, we had a great time. The food was a little pricey, but the whole dinner was a wonderful way to celebrate two joyful years of marriage. God has been so good to us in giving us one another. I couldn't imagine a better husband than Forrest Collin Hobbs.
